Capitols Topple Boll Weevils, 6-1, as Carpenter Shines
|
The Augusta Capitols stymied the Miami Boll Weevils, 6-1, at Ballpark of Miami. Eric Carpenter had a good day at the plate. He hit 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice for Augusta. Picking up the win was Chris Hawes. He went 5.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits. The right--hander struck out 5 and walked 3. Paul Williamson earned the save for Augusta, his 1st.
With Augusta leading 3-1 in the top of the ninth, Carpenter came up to bat against Miami pitcher Brent Kuest. Carpenter hit a slider to right-center for a bases-clearing triple. His 3rd triple of the season put the Capitols on top, 6-1.
"That's a solid team effort right there," said Carpenter. "Everyone's feeling positive after that win."
Augusta now has a record of 28-19 with the win.
