Royals Squelch Firecats Offense in Shutout Win
The Cornwall Royals defeated the Hialeah Firecats, 5-0. Third Baseman Jose Avelar deserved a large share of the credit. Avelar was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Royals. Cornwall reliever Dionísio Manteigueiro was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Juan Rincon. The save went to Kelly Powell, number 1 for him.

Cornwall took a 3-0 lead on Avelar's 1st home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which he hit off Juan Rincon in the bottom of the sixth, propelled Cornwall to the win.

"We were able to put some good swings on some pitches," Avelar told the Cornwall Observer.

The Royals go to 12-22 with the win.
