Augusta pitcher Glenn Ward had a large part in his team beating the Hialeah Firecats, 5-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Picking up the save was Mike Poussard, his 2nd. The Firecats, now 9-17, continue their sluggish start.

Augusta used a clutch at-bat from Brian Hubert to capture the win. The catcher hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Capitols ahead, 2-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

Hubert attributed the win to his team's "grittiness."
