Augusta Edges Stockton, 1-0
|
The Capitols faced a stiff challenge from Stockton pitcher Matt Hanna, but persevered to claim a win at The Capitol Dome. The final score was 1-0. Hanna went 5.1 innings and allowed no runs. Kevin Hudspeth picked up his 1st save of the season. The Capitols are off to an underwhelming start as they look to defend their championship, notching only their 5th win in 17 games.
Tied up with the Ragin Cajuns in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Capitols got a boost from third baseman Eric Hicks. With a runner on 2nd, Hicks saw a 0-1 fastball from Jorge Ortega and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Augusta on top, 1-0.
"Not too many highlights on our side," said losing manager Jeffrey Troke.
