Miami had no answer for 23-year old right-handed pitcher Troy Conner. The Cornwall Royals starter stymied Boll Weevils hitters, helping the Royals cruise to victory, 7-1. With the win, Cornwall boosts its record to 10-4.
In the top of the first, Cornwall catcher Taiju Kusanagi had a run-producing at-bat. Facing Miami hurler Didier Noël, Kusanagi drew a walk, driving in 1 run. That made the score 3-0, Cornwall. For the day, Kusanagi drew 3 walks, while scoring 2.
"I think every team will tell you that the pitching sets the tone, especially the starters," said Cornwall skipper Jon Williams.
