Valverde Helps Augusta Cruise to 10-1 Win
Good production from shortstop Jose Valverde helped the Augusta Capitols topple the Hialeah Firecats, 10-1. Valverde went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3 for the Capitols. The save went to Kevin Hudspeth, number 1 for him. The Firecats, now 4-10, continue their poor start.

With Augusta leading 4-1 in the top of the ninth, Valverde hit a fastball from Eric Sawyer for a 3-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Capitols ahead, 7-1.

"I'm just happy to help the team win," Valverde told the Augusta Daily.
