Cincinnati got a terrific performance from pitcher Keith Jong, but it wasn't enough to beat the Miami Boll Weevils. Miami won the Ballpark of Cincinnati contest, 6-2. Jong threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. The loss drops Cincinnati to 4-4.

Dave Garcia came through with a big-time hit for Miami. The pinch hitter smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

Miami manager Bill Murtha commended his team for "banging out a nice win."
