Keith Brosch made an impact in the 9-2 Detroit win over Phoenix. Brosch, who is tied for 7th in the AC in RBI with 23, slugged 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 4. Justin Thompson, the winner, improved to 2-0. He held Phoenix to 1 run on 2 hits over 5.2 innings, while racking up 14 strikeouts. Chris Fitzsimmons earned the save for Detroit, his 1st.

The Giants got an important contribution from catcher Brandon Fry, who in the bottom of the second hit a 1-2 fastball to left-center for a grand slam home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Giants ahead, 5-0.

"The name of the game is scoring runs," Brosch said. "We did a good job of that today."

The win gives Detroit a record of 14-14.
