The inspired effort of Vail second baseman Troy Hermann was not enough to prevent a loss, 4-2, to the Cornwall Royals. Hermann went 3-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The win puts Cornwall at 1-2.

Cornwall used a well-timed hit by Mario Aguiluz to capture the win. The shortstop socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Royals ahead, 3-2. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.

Said losing manager Mike Alexander: "The at-bats, obviously, needed to be better."
