Starting pitcher Alex Alvarez gave the Mobile Yard Dogs a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Aurora Suns, 3-2, at Mobile Grounds. Alvarez got the win, improving to 15-11. He gave up 2 hits and walked 2 over 6 innings. He allowed 1 run. The save was credited to T.J. Briscoe, his 4th.
The Suns had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Yard Dogs going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old third baseman Devin Hoehn came to the plate. Hoehn hit a 2-run home run on a 0-1 fastball from Aurora hurler Joel Atkinson. It was Hoehn's 27th home run of the year.
Mobile manager Gil Gomez praised his team's "businesslike approach."
The Eastern AA Northern Division-leading Yard Dogs are 76-62.
