The Corpus Christi Mermen got a sterling performance from pitcher Carlos Zamora, but the Mescalero Chiefs still prevailed, 2-1. Zamora threw 6.1 innings of 1-hit ball. Mescalero is now 75-62, Corpus Christi 65-72.

Mescalero took the lead, 2-1, on Chris Tams's 2nd home run of the season. The solo home run came off Corpus Christi pitcher Justin Gravely in the bottom of the eighth.

In comments to the Mescalero Times, Tams insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
