The Traverse City Bears defeated the Libertyville Polecats, 6-3, at Greensboro Grounds. Traverse City was led by 24-year old first baseman Jake Pierce, who went 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. By defeating Libertyville, the 4th-place Bears improved to 52-77.
Early in the game, Pierce had a 2-run home run for Traverse City. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Bears on top, 2-0.
"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Pierce. "You've got to get results."
