Mountaineers Shut Out Yard Dogs, 7-0
|
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Winchester Mountaineers and Mobile Yard Dogs.
The Winchester Mountaineers defeated the Mobile Yard Dogs, 7-0, at Mobile Grounds. Leading the charge for Winchester was designated hitter Joe Martin. He hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Corey Alston notched his 3rd save in 3 chances.
Edward Salgado had a big solo home run for the Mountaineers in the top of the fifth inning. With Winchester leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from Willie Bahena, who is tied for 6th in the E-AA in complete games with 2, and punished it. The result was his 16th home run of the season, which put the Mountaineers on top, 2-0.
"This was a nice win for us," said Martin. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
The first-place Mountaineers, at 87-37, lead the Eastern AA Southen Division by 5½ games.
