Mountaineers Shut Out Running Rebels, 4-0
|
Ed Jenkins, who is tied for 7th in the E-AA in quality starts with 13, never let the Running Rebels get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his curveball, to pitch the Mountaineers to a win, 4-0. Jenkins, now 15-4, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing no runs. The Mountaineers improved to a lofty 96-23.
The Mountaineers got a big at-bat from third baseman Chris Leidenfrost. For the game, Leidenfrost went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Winchester a 2-0 lead.
"I'm proud of the way our guys played today to come out with this win," Leidenfrost told the Winchester Herald.
