Winchester pitcher Edward Ness had a large part in his team beating the Traverse City Bears, 4-0. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. In 5.2 innings, Ness surrendered 1 hit, while striking out 2 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. The first-place Mountaineers, at 86-28, lead the Eastern AA Southen Division by 20½ games.

The Mountaineers benefited from an error in the top of the fifth inning. Winchester was leading 1-0 when Marcos Villarreal hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put Winchester in front, 2-0.

"It was just a matter of executing," said Winchester manager Mitchell Young.
