Detroit pitcher Mike Wroten had a large part in his team subduing the Phoenix Gladiators, 3-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Detroit goes to 10-17.

The Giants got a big at-bat from right fielder Ron Cardwell. For the game, Cardwell was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the second, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Detroit a 2-0 lead.

"Feels good to get the job done," Cardwell said after the game.
