Traverse City Blanks Wildthings, Benitez at His Best
|
The Traverse City Bears shut out the Washington Wildthings 6-0 today behind the strong pitching of Pedro Benitez. Benitez surrendered only 3 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 4.
Following the last out, Benitez appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Washington manager Bob Platter, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken left-hander as the clubs left the field. Benitez's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The Wildthings skipper would not comment on the exchange, but at the Bears press conference, Benitez confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Benitez said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Traverse City manager Ray Johnson added.
In 23 starts this year Benitez has crafted a 3-10 record and a 4.96 ERA.
