The home team was supported by a raucous crowd at Mountaineers Park.

The Winchester Mountaineers earned a close win over the Corpus Christi Mermen, thanks in part to Jerome Abney. The Winchester right-hander, who is tied for 6th in the E-AA in wins with 11, played a key role in the 3-1 victory. Picking up the save was Jaheim Johnson. He's now 11 for 11 in save chances.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Mountaineers had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the second, when catcher Josh Jackson hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Erik Ashley and made the score 1-0, Mountaineers. Jackson was 2 for 3 with 2 singles.

"The fact of the matter is that we had a shot to win," said losing manager Arturo Colon.

Winchester is rocking and rolling at 78-31.
