Tight Tilt Goes to Bears, 4-3
|
Traverse City and Rohnert Park duked it out and the Bears came out victorious.
The Traverse City Bears did just enough to sneak past the Rohnert Park Cougars, 4-3, at Greensboro Grounds. Traverse City pitcher Alex de Jesus, in particular, had a standout performance. Traverse City reliever Juan Martinez was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Antonio Alvarez. Jayson Wagner converted his 19th save in 25 tries.
Had Dustin Merkley not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Merkley hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Bears.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Traverse City manager Ray Johnson.
The Bears improve their record to 53-55 with the win over Rohnert Park.
