Mountaineers Down Rebels, 5-1
|
The exploits of third baseman Zion Gilliam, who is tied for 6th in the E-AA in home runs with 22, helped the Winchester Mountaineers defeat the Jackson Rebels, 5-1. Gilliam went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Jorge Salazar was the winner. He's now 9-0. The loser was 23-year old left-handed pitcher Tyler Huewe. The Mountaineers boast a remarkable 78-18 record.
The Mountaineers got a big at-bat from center fielder Jason Perrigin. For the game, Perrigin was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 15th home run of the season gave Winchester a 2-0 lead.
Gilliam told a Winchester Herald reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
