Adam Matthews, who leads the E-AA with a 10.6 K/9 rate, never let the Wildthings get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his changeup, to pitch the Dread Kings to a win, 5-0. Matthews picked up the win for Boise, going 6.1 innings. He gave up no runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 9-3. Washington is in the throes of a long losing streak, which is now 12 games.
Dwayne Cook dealt the Wildthings a blow in the top of the third. Batting with the bases loaded and Boise leading 1-0, Cook hit a 1-2 fastball for a run-scoring single.
"Adam was pounding the zone," said Boise manager Sean Drummond.
