Dread Kings Lose By a Run at Winchester
|
Boise second baseman Joe Cross had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Cross hit 2 home runs, even as Winchester beat the Dread Kings, 4-3. The winner in relief was Jake Simmons. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. He now owns a record of 3-0. Steve Gryder finished to wrap up his 20th save.
The Mountaineers got a big at-bat from first baseman George Kinder. For the game, Kinder went 1 for 3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 16th home run of the season gave Winchester a 4-3 lead.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Kinder said.
The Eastern AA Southen Division-leading Mountaineers are 59-26.
