Millionaires Prevail, 5-3, Over Washington
|
The Alcoa Millionaires saddled the Washington Wildthings with a loss at Alcoa Grounds. The final score was 5-3. Corey Routh was 3 for 4, including 2 singles and 1 home run. The Alcoa right fielder scored 2 runs and drove in 1. Justin Andersen, now 6-3, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2.2 innings. Jesse Summerlin earned the save for Alcoa, his 2nd.
Ben McCabe had a big 2-run double for the Millionaires in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Alcoa leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 23-year old left-handed pitcher Ian Hobby and swatted a double to center. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Millionaires ahead, 4-1.
"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said McCabe.
Washington has now lost 5 in a row.
