Mermen Roll to 8-0 Win Over Chiefs

The home crowd had a good time watching the Mescalero Chiefs and Corpus Christi Mermen get after it.
Corpus Christi got a strong outing from Nate Holyfield as the Mermen defeated the Mescalero Chiefs, 8-0, at Mermen Field. Holyfield, now 4-5, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing no runs.
The Mermen benefited from an error in the bottom of the fourth inning. Corpus Christi was leading 1-0 when Keith Roberts hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put Corpus Christi in front, 2-0.
"We're playing like we're capable of," said Corpus Christi manager Arturo Colon.
The Chiefs, now 50-35, have lost 4 in a row.
