Billy Carroll was a major contributor to the 4-2 Winchester win over Mescalero. The Mountaineers designated hitter went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. The Mountaineers, at 62-22, have a comfortable 14½-game lead in their division.

Winchester used the timely hitting of Bill Dennis to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Mountaineers on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"I thought we played a nice game," Carroll told the Winchester Gazette. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
