Gladiators Done In By Desperados, 5-4
|
Though the conditions were not ideal, the Austin Desperados and Phoenix Gladiators came back from a rain delay to finish their game.
Despite a fine performance by center fielder Jon Wagner, the Phoenix Gladiators lost to the Austin Desperados, 5-4. Wagner went 4-4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winning pitcher was 25-year old second baseman Brent Hansen. He tossed 107 pitches over 5.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits. Picking up the save was Bob Baucke, his 9th.
The Desperados got a big at-bat from right fielder Leo Serna. For the game, Serna was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Austin a 5-3 lead.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Serna said.
Austin goes to 17-8.
