Mountaineers Defeat Cougars, 7-3
|
John Lopez was a vital contributor to the 7-3 Winchester victory over Rohnert Park. The Mountaineers right fielder was 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Eric Alley snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-0 on the season. David Woodson suffered the loss. The first-place Mountaineers now have a record of 67-14.
The Cougars had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Mountaineers going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 20-year old catcher Mike Fogg came to the plate. Fogg hit a 2-run home run on a 3-1 fastball from Rohnert Park hurler David Woodson. It was Fogg's 5th home run of the year.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Winchester manager Mitchell Young.
