Mountaineers 5-3 Victors Over Traverse City
|
The Winchester Mountaineers topped the Traverse City Bears, 5-3, in Eastern AA action at Mountaineers Park. The standout performance belonged to Winchester pitcher and Chicago, Illinois, native Scott Sauer. Sauer yielded 3 runs over 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. His record improves to 4-5. Jaheim Johnson, credited with the save, is now 1 for 1 in save opportunities.
The Mountaineers got a big at-bat from first baseman George Kinder. For the game, Kinder was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 14th home run of the season gave Winchester a 2-0 lead.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Kinder told the Winchester Observer.
Winchester raised its record to 55-24 with the win.
