Mountaineers Sneak Past Bears, 4-3
|
Traverse City wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Justin Knittle, falling to the Winchester Mountaineers, 4-3. Knittle threw 7.1 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Winchester reliever Steve Gryder picked up the win. Sam Powers took the loss for Traverse City. The victory gives Winchester a record of 54-24.
The game came to a climactic end in the bottom of the ninth. With Winchester trailing 3-1, Cory Sperber delivered the big blow, hitting a splitter from Sam Powers for a bases-clearing double. Just like that, the Mountaineers had a walk-off win.
"We put together a nice win," Sperber said.
