Polecats Score Late, Topple Running Rebels, 5-3
|
The Polecats grabbed a win, 5-3, at Running Rebels Ballpark, overcoming a fine effort from Fresno pitcher Heriberto Hernandez. Hernandez went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Eric Volmar was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Jordan Clayton. Saul Guevara closed out the game, earning his 1st save.
Libertyville used a clutch hit from Matt Bellavance to snatch the win. The pinch hitter belted a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Polecats ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit, but it was huge.
"Being able to contribute to a win is always a great feeling," Bellavance told the Libertyville Gazette.
The third-place Polecats now have a record of 29-41.
