Mescalero Chiefs starter Dylan Bibbs turned in a sparkling performance against the Corpus Christi Mermen, leading his team to a 2-1 win. With this game in the books, Mescalero is 36-33, Corpus Christi 40-29.
The Mermen had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Chiefs going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old right fielder Travis Letner came to the plate. Letner hit a 2-run home run on a 2-2 fastball from Corpus Christi hurler Justin Trunzo. It was Letner's 14th home run of the year.
"We take it day by day here," said Letner, "and today was a good one for us."
