Riding the 2-hit performance of the 28-year old second baseman Jon Dearman, the Corpus Christi Mermen stopped the Traverse City Bears, 4-2, in 9 innings. The last-place Mermen now have a record of 30-38.
Corpus Christi used the timely hitting of Gary Draeger to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Mermen on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Draeger told the Corpus Christi Citizen.
