Wildthings Sneak Past Mountaineers, 2-1

Washington got a first-rate effort from pitcher Josh Holmes, who frustrated Winchester hitters en route to a 2-1 Wildthings triumph at Red Barons Ballpark. Jim Unknown picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Mark Burkhart, who is tied for 3rd in the E-AA in saves with 15, was tagged with the loss. Edwin Coney earned the save, his 12th.
Curtis Gilchrist, who is tied for 7th in the E-AA in total bases with 109, helped out the Washington cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the left fielder was 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
"Josh pounded the strike zone and made good pitches when he needed to," said Washington manager Bob Platter.
Washington, with the win, climbs to 22-44.
