Eskimo Brothers Win 18th Straight, Take Down Chiefs, 7-1
|
The Encinitas Eskimo Brothers downed the Mescalero Chiefs, 7-1, the largest share of the credit belonging to shortstop Alex Melo. On the day, Melo went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Eskimo Brothers. Wade Mueller went 5.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits. The right-hander struck out 7 and walked 3. With the win, he's now 1-0 this season. The Eskimo Brothers, at 44-20, have now won 18 straight.
Jim Voci had a big 2-run home run for the Eskimo Brothers in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Encinitas leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a cutter from Jason Stoute and swatted a home run to right. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Eskimo Brothers ahead, 4-1.
