Riverside beat Mesa on the strength of starting pitcher Pete Mead's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 6-3. The win elevated the Rotters to 40-23.

Riverside used the timely hitting of Steve Cathey to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Rotters on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

Cathey called the win "a collective effort."
