23ers Prevail, 7-5, Over Philadelphia

Fountain Hills and Philadelphia duked it out and the 23ers came out victorious.
The Philadelphia Marauders could not turn a fine performance from designated hitter Carlos Barreto into a win. Instead, the Fountain Hills 23ers prevailed, 7-5. Barreto was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Ted Tygart, now 2-1, was credited with the win in 2.2 innings of relief. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit, while striking out 3 and walking 0. Dan Mills earned the save, his 1st.
Tim Scott had a big 2-run home run for the 23ers in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Fountain Hills trailing 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Corey Gruver, who finished 2nd in the NC in wins with 16 in 2021, and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the 23ers on top, 2-1.
"We're playing like we're capable of," said Fountain Hills manager Efren Nieman.
The win puts Fountain Hills at 14-10.
