|
Right-hander Sandy Ibanez mesmerized the Libertyville Polecats while leading the Winchester Mountaineers to a 4-0 victory. The winner was Ibanez. He threw 5.2 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Eric Volmar. The Mountaineers have an impressive 42-18 record.
Mark Root had a big solo home run for the Mountaineers in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Winchester leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he got a fastball from Eric Volmar and swatted a home run to right-center. It was his 14th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mountaineers ahead, 2-0.
Afterward, Mountaineers manager Mitchell Young said, "We had some good at-bats, some big at-bats in some key situations."
