The Corpus Christi Mermen turned back the Winchester Mountaineers, 3-2, at Mermen Field. Noah Wilcox, in particular, had a fine performance. He was 2-3 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Charlie Hunter, the winner, improved to 4-3. He held Winchester to 2 runs on 5 hits over 5 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. The save went to Sean Gary, number 4 for him.
Wilcox contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Corpus Christi in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-1, Wilcox took a sinker from Brad Bixby and stroked the home run to right. His 5th home run of the season allowed the Mermen to leap in front, 3-2.
"I was a little disappointed," said Winchester manager Mitchell Young. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
The setback makes Winchester 43-15.
