The Winchester Mountaineers earned a close win over the Traverse City Bears, thanks in part to Jonathan Malcolm. The Winchester right-hander, who is tied for 2nd in the E-AA in wins with 6, played a key role in the 3-1 victory. Mark Burkhart got credit for the save for Winchester. It was his 14th of the year. The first-place Mountaineers now sit at 39-15.

The game was on the line with two out in the top of the eighth inning, but Jeremy Chalmers didn't flinch. With runners on 1st and 2nd and Traverse City trailing 3-1, Chalmers retired Will Martinez to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Chalmers, with a wink.
