Winchester Wins, 3-2, Over Millionaires

Winchester and Alcoa duked it out and the Mountaineers came out victorious.
Starting pitcher Gilberto Cortez gave the Winchester Mountaineers a rock-solid effort. The Carson City, Nevada native helped his team defeat the Alcoa Millionaires, 3-2, at Mountaineers Park. Gregg Daugherty earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 3-2.
Jason Lewis swatted a run-scoring double for Winchester in the bottom of the eighth. The third baseman went 2 for 3 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and batted in 2.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Alcoa manager . "We just didn't cash in."
The Mountaineers lead the Eastern AA Southen Division by 3½ games.
