With first baseman Mike Daniels leading the charge, the Mescalero Chiefs defeated the Rohnert Park Cougars, 6-3, at Chiefs Ballpark. Daniels, who is tied for 9th in the E-AA in home runs with 10, went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Manny Velez was the winner. He's now 5-2. The loser was 21-year old left-handed pitcher Willie Krell. The 5th-place Chiefs improved to 23-24.

There was more than one reason the Chiefs beat the Cougars, but Daniels's big at-bat in the bottom of the first was an important factor. He staked his team to a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run single.

Mescalero manager Hunter Santiago was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
