Mermen Field featured a tense pitchers' duel.
Corpus Christi wasted a solid 8.2-inning effort from starting pitcher T.J. Harrison, losing to Traverse City, 2-1, at Mermen Field. Miguel Gomez got the win, improving to 5-2. He held the Mermen to 1 run on 4 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 3. Quincy Donaldson earned the save for Traverse City, his 8th.
Making an impact for Traverse City was left fielder Juan Alcantara. He drilled a run-scoring double off T.J. Harrison in the top of the third. For the game, Alcantara was 1-3 with a double and a walk.
"You have to win 1-0, 3-2, 2-1 games if you want to get to where you want to go," said Bears manager Zach Hildebrant.
Traverse City, at 16-17, occupies third place in the Eastern AA Northern Division.
