Washington Falters Again, Loses, 8-2, to Corpus Christi
At Mermen Field, the Washington Wildthings and Corpus Christi Mermen were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

Corpus Christi Mermen starter Adam Johnson kept the Washington Wildthings hitters in check, leading his team to a comfortable 8-2 win. To call the performance of the 2026 Wildthings disappointing is an understatement.

Juan Alcantara cracked a home run off Terence Beggs in the bottom of the first. His 2-run blast put the Mermen on top, 2-0. In all, Alcantara had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 5.

"We've got to kick it in gear soon," said Washington manager Brendan Rees.
