Rotters Deal Mescalero 6-4 Defeat
|
Wet weather did not postpone the Riverside-Mescalero ballgame.
The inspired effort of Mescalero center fielder Carlos Velasco was not enough to prevent a loss, 6-4, to the Riverside Rotters. Velasco was 3-4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Ben Foster collected save number 2.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher Chris Terry came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Mescalero pitcher Chris Hall, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Riverside on top, 6-4.
"We ground out the win," said Terry. "That's all that matters."
The win brings the Rotters to 13-9, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
