Reapers Earn Late Win
|
The Carolina Reapers picked up a win at Leatherback Park, courtesy of Jimmy DeMoss. The left-hander helped his team stop the Daytona Beach Sea Turtles, 3-2. DeMoss, the winner, moves to 1-4. He threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 1 walk. Despite the win, Carolina, now 6-16, is off to a terrible start.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Rich Simmer came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Daytona Beach pitcher Steven Hyatt, he hit a 0-1 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Carolina on top, 3-2.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Daytona Beach manager Danny Sanchez.
