The Boise Dread Kings topped the Corpus Christi Mermen, 6-4, in Eastern AA action at Mermen Field. The standout performance belonged to Boise pitcher and San Jose, California, native Gil Carroll. Joey Byler got credit for the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 1.1 innings. Earning his 1st save of the year was Luke Getts.

Boise used the timely hitting of Steve Fites to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Dread Kings on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We took home the win," said Fites. "What's not to like?"

Corpus Christi, with the loss, is still a hardy 11-4.
