Hoffman Lifts Nightmare to 7-4 Triumph
|
Dedicated fans weathered the storm to watch their beloved Nightmare beat the Giants.
The New York Nightmare finished off the Detroit Giants, 7-4. Much of the credit belonged to designated hitter Frank Hoffman. Hoffman was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4 for the Nightmare. Allan Clemente, who went 5.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 4 runs on 7 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 8. His record now stands at 2-3.
Hoffman contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for New York in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 3-1, Hoffman took a curveball from Phil White and stroked the home run to left. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Nightmare to leap in front, 5-3.
"I'm trying to see the ball big, see the ball up in the zone and put the barrel on it," Hoffman told the New York Observer.
For Detroit, now 16-6, wins have been plentiful, losses few.
