Mountaineers Bag 3-0 Win
|
In a low-scoring game between the Winchester Mountaineers and the Washington Wildthings, pitcher Denny Mason was masterful on the mound. The Winchester left-hander spearheaded his team's 3-0 win. Winchester reliever Jake Simmons was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Pat Hiltner took the loss. Steve Gryder got credit for the save for Winchester. It was his 1st of the year.
Winchester went in front, 3-0, on Ben Blake's 1st home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which Blake hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Washington pitcher Pat Hiltner visibly perturbed.
"I'm not out here to win a beauty contest," said Blake. "Obviously."
The loss has the Wildthings at 0-3.
