Razor Sharks Rally Late to Nip Dread Kings
Fans of the Mesa Razor Sharks who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Mesa win over the visiting Boise Dread Kings, 8-7, in 12 innings. John Kainz started for the home team against Malcolm Slater. Malcolm Slater earned accolades for his performance. Jason Hiner notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 4 innings. His record now sits at 1-0.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 12th inning, when Mesa designated hitter David Van Sant, facing Jordan Gaines, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Razor Sharks the 8-7 win.

"Enjoyed this one," Van Sant told the Mesa Times. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
