Chiefs Score Late to Upend Polecats, 3-1
Field of the Polecats was the site of the home opener for the Libertyville Polecats. The contest featured a prime matchup between Jason Stoute of the visiting Mescalero Chiefs and Andy Devane of the Polecats. The final score was 3-1, the Chiefs getting the win. Andy Devane turned in the best performance. The win was credited to Clint Rapson in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Dave Leonetti took the loss. Picking up the save was Eric Sawyer, his 1st.

Eric Breene delivered a big hit for Mescalero. The first baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Chiefs ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.

"Good to get a win," said Breene, "but it's a long season."
